At Consensus 2025 in Toronto, Cardano founder gave a powerful message. He talked about the big problem in the digital money world: Crypto Tribalism. This happens when people pick one blockchain and act like it’s the only good one. They argue and fight instead of working together.
He said, “Every year, there’s a new token saying it’s better than the rest.” He believes that this kind of competition is holding the whole digital currency world back. Instead of helping each other grow, projects are too busy trying to win. He wants to change that by building something called “cooperative economics,” where everyone works as a team.
What Is Crypto Tribalism?
Crypto Tribalism is when people pick sides in DeFi world. They support one coin or blockchain like it’s a sports team. Even when other projects might have better ideas, they won’t listen. This causes fights and stops progress. Hoskinson thinks it’s time to stop this and start working together.
The Glacier Drop: Tokens for the People
Hoskinson introduced something big at the event—The Glacier Drop. It’s a massive airdrop for Midnight, a new privacy-focused project from Cardano. This drop will reach over 37 million wallets across eight blockchains. Hoskinson made it clear: this isn’t just about hype. It’s about fairness.
He said, “No venture capitalists. No strings. The tokens go to regular users.” Two types of tokens will be given out—NIGHT (a voting token) and DUST (a privacy token). If you get it, it’s yours. No tricks.
Hoskinson didn’t hold back. He told venture capitalists to “get the hell out.” He doesn’t want digital money markey to become another game for the rich. The Glacier Drop is for the people, not big investors. This is part of his fight against Crypto Tribalism—to make it fair, open, and for everyone.
Midnight: Connecting All Chains
Midnight is not just another blockchain. It’s a bridge between blockchains. Developers from Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin, and others can use it while paying in their own tokens. That means ETH users pay in ETH, SOL users pay in SOL, and so on. Validators from any chain can also help run the network.
This kind of cross-chain system is key to Hoskinson’s idea of cooperative economics. It brings blockchains together instead of tearing them apart. It’s a direct answer to Crypto Tribalism.
Built for Privacy and Everyone
Midnight is still in the testnet phase, but the full launch is planned for the end of 2025. Hoskinson says it combines privacy and fairness. With big tech moving into peer-to-peer market, he wants to make sure the space stays open for everyone—not just big companies. “This is the project I’m having the most fun with,” he said. “It’s about being friends with everybody.”
Why Midnight Could Change Everything
Midnight and the Glacier Drop could mark a turning point in digital currency. By keeping out VCs and bringing in users from all over, Hoskinson is building something new. A world where chains work together. A world without Crypto Tribalism.
