Key Insights:

  • Bitcoin dominance peaked in July 2025, mirroring 2017 and 2021 altseason starts.
  • Altcoin market cap formed a rare golden cross, only seen before 123x rallies.
  • $OTHERS.D touched a 2014 trendline, often followed by altcoin market breakouts.

Altseason 2025 is gaining traction as multiple historical indicators flash bullish across the altcoin market. Bitcoin dominance has reversed at a familiar cycle top, while the altcoin market cap just printed its first golden cross since 2021. Long-term trendline retests and fractal alignments further suggest that capital rotation into altcoins is now accelerating across all tiers of the market.

Altseason Confirmed After BTC Dominance Rejection in July

According to CryptoELITES, Bitcoin dominance is hitting its upper resistance trendline in early July and reversing, just as it did in 2017 and 2021. Each time BTC dominance topped near this line, capital rotated into altcoins, triggering explosive rallies across the market. The 2025 rejection closely mirrors this pattern, marking what may be the third confirmed start of an altseason cycle.

The structure of this rejection aligned with previous macro cycles where BTC lost dominance sharply and altcoins outperformed. RSI is diverging, as viewed within the chart, and volume is supporting the breakdown; therefore, it was a structural move and not a speculative one.

Moreover, Total3, the chart tracking the total crypto market cap excluding BTC and ETH, continues consolidating just above its diagonal support. This positioning historically signals the beginning of decoupling, where altcoins gain market share even as Bitcoin consolidates or trends sideways.

Golden Cross on Altcoin Cap Validates Bullish Momentum

Meanwhile, Danny confirmed a rare golden cross has formed on the total altcoin market cap for the first time since 2021. The 50-day moving average has crossed above the 200-day, a setup that triggered 123x gains for many altcoins during the last cycle. The same formation can be seen in July  2025, corresponding to the initial phase of capital inflow and acceleration of the trend.

Interestingly, this signal gains strength due to its context. The crossover followed a prolonged accumulation phase, with altcoins maintaining higher lows and establishing firm base levels since late Q1. That momentum behind the cross does not come from short squeezes and hype cycles, but instead a natural re-entry and stable activity in the spot market.

As Danny has mentioned in his post, this is the same setup that converted $1K into profits worth $172,291 previously. While past performance isn’t a guarantee, this reappearance strongly suggests that the structural phase for altcoin expansion is here once again. Importantly, this pattern emerged just as BTC dominance rolled over, reinforcing its cycle significance.

$OTHERS.D Retests 2014 Trendline as Capital Shifts Broadly

In support of the altseason thesis, Bitcoinsensus highlighted the $OTHERS.D chart, which measured dominance from all assets excluding BTC and ETH. This measure is currently retesting a rising trendline going back to 2014. Every past retest of this line, in 2016 and 2020, was followed by multi-month altcoin rallies.

Notably, this 2025 retest is not coincidental. The pattern has been in existence for more than 10 years and forms a foundation for the market trend. The bounce visible on the chart mimics the previous expansions and suggests the early stages of a large market share recovery among altcoins outside the top two assets.

Altseason 2025 Mirrors Past Mini and Full-Cycle Patterns

Additionally, Sensei’s uploaded altseason cheat sheet offered a visual roadmap of the current cycle compared to past expansions. He drew price action over corresponding time frames in 2019 and 2021 on his chart, matching the breakouts following every retest of the horizontal resistances.

The current structure sits in the breakout phase, just before exponential follow-through, as outlined in the boxed “altseason zone.”

More so, the cheat sheet also plots projected expansion paths into 2026, based on the symmetry of previous mini and full altseasons. The arrangement has not been based on estimations but rather on a technical correspondence of cycle phases. As Total3 experiences pressure above its ultimate resistance, the cheat sheet shows that the upcoming period would be similar to the rally of 2020 -2021.
